“I had this dream a while back. I was in a vineyard and it was early in the spring,” my new client shared.

“The workers showed up first thing in the morning and they were all staring at me. I finally realized they were waiting for me to tell them what to do.”

“What did you tell them?” I asked.

“Nothing,” he said. “It was awkward. I don’t know the first thing about running a vineyard or growing grapes.”

“Why do you think you had this dream?” I asked. “What did it mean to you?”

“I think the vineyard relates to my job search. I know it takes a lot of time and work to grow the grapes so you can eventually harvest them,” he related. “But, frankly, I’m lost. I don’t know what to do. It’s been almost 20 years since I last looked for a job.”

“Makes sense,” I shared. “Tending a vineyard does have many similarities to an executive job search. There are a lot of steps and many hard to predict variables, especially if it’s not something you do often.”

“I don’t mind doing the work,” he said. “I just want to make sure it yields something good at the end of the season.”

I had some fun relating how our team has a lot of experience tending the career vineyard. He would never have to worry about what to do next. Follow the process and enjoy harvest.
