I’ve heard this uttered thousands of times by prospective clients over the years. I’ve heard it in the last month at least a dozen times, even though we are in the middle of one of the best job markets in decades.
Why do people say this?
It’s all in the eye of the beholder. For them, it is a bad market. Mainly it’s because they are on the outside looking in. They don’t know how to access it. They say these things like this to offer themselves solace to protect their self image. “It’s not me. It’s the market.”
No. It’s you. The sooner you come to terms with that, the sooner you can change your outcomes.
For quite a few job seekers it’s been many years since they last looked for a job. They’re still looking in the newspaper want ads hoping to find what they want. Even if they’ve upgraded to looking at internet job boards their odds of getting a response to an application are in the low single digit percentages.
The learning curve is steep. Every month that goes by is 8.33% of a year. You might eventually find the job you want, but there is a steep cost to “eventually.” Maybe it’s time for some help.
